Does the love of the combustion engine have an expiration date?
We love the gasoline engine, the sound of carburetors sucking in air, cylinders pounding and combustion strokes that penetrate to the outside through an artfully crafted exhaust system. Yes, we compare the intonation of a Dino or Busso V6, a BMW straight-six, a Maserati V8 or a Lamborghini Miura V12 to symphonic works. For us, this background noise is simply part and parcel of classic cars and automobiles in general.
But the world is changing. No such sounds escape from the modern electric car. Rolling and wind noises are louder than the whirring of the electric motors, which lack any musicality anyway.
However, our generation, which grew up with petrol engines and enjoyed the high revving V8 and V12 engines on racetracks, will die out sooner or later. And for the young people who are coming into contact with cars for the first time today, an electric car may be the standard rather than its predecessor.
So it cannot be completely dismissed that the love of the petrol engine and its background noise could die out with our generation (and perhaps the next generation or the one after that). Around 2070 or 2080 at the latest. But that would be a shame... and it doesn't necessarily have to be that way, after all, there are still enthusiasts who collect steam locomotives or horse-drawn carriages ...
