CAN bus technology jeopardizes the maturing of classic cars... (Question of the week)
Cars have become increasingly complex over the last few decades. More high-tech and material science has gone into vehicles, and some cars are more like computers than cars. Does this pose a risk as vehicles get older?
We investigated this topic in the form of a survey , which was completed yesterday.
Of the almost 500 survey participants, 44.2% clearly see the CAN bus as a threat to our maturing classics. Although the CAN bus is standardized at the lowest technical level, the characteristics and the resulting variety of applications make the CAN bus probably the most complex bunch of problems that will be difficult to master in the future, especially as almost every manufacturer has implemented its own variants. However, computer and sensor-controlled motor and drive technology also received a high proportion of votes in the survey (27.3%). The remaining votes were distributed almost evenly among the other answers.
