When a Volvo falls from the sky
11/16/2020
A press release recently fluttered in from Volvo. They had carried out a crash test from a height of 30 meters to help rescue services save lives. The aim was to simulate the consequences of an extreme accident, such as those that can occur at high speeds.
The images are impressive, but the idea of the crane is not entirely new. Something similar was carried out around 50 years ago and, coincidentally, with a Volvo.
However, if you look at the pictures in comparison, the crane of the modern era must have been somewhat larger than the wheeled crane 50 years ago. And back then, it was probably more a question of highlighting the manufacturer's safety efforts.
The original photo from back then can of course be found in the Zwischengas online photo archive.
