The rise and fall (?) of the Ferrari Testarossa
11/19/2019
The Ferrari Testarossahas a large fan base and also appeals to younger people who may know the car from the TV series "Miami Vice" (in white) or computer games ("Out Run"). Compared to its predecessors (e.g. 365 GT/4 BB or 512 BB), it was produced in large numbers, with around 10,000 examples of all variants (up to 512M) being made.
Nevertheless, prices rose rapidly in the mid-teens. They have since calmed down again, as an analysis of the Zwischengas auction database( with almost 200 Testarossa transactions) impressively shows.
Classic Data's market valuationshave also had to be corrected again in recent years, but have probably not yet been able to fully reflect the decline in demand.
The Testarossa is traded in considerable quantities. Depending on the year, between 13 and 54 of these cars were offered at the larger auctions alone. The sales rate was always relatively high.
And how will the curves continue? A substantial increase in value over the next few years is hardly to be expected, but good examples are likely to hold their value reasonably well at around EUR 100,000. After all, they are surprisingly suitable for everyday use and reliable if well maintained. And the design is certainly unique.
