Can you find modern cars interesting if you like old ones?
Of course, one would instinctively say yes to the question of whether one can find modern cars interesting even if one likes old ones. But it's not that simple. In fact, many lovers of classic cars reject modern car technology and the shapes of today's cars. They involve the driver too little, the background noise is artificial, the aesthetics are unconvincing and everything is far too complicated, are arguments that are often heard.
I myself am much more open-minded, because of course modern cars also have their advantages, even if the gearshift no longer moves the gears directly into position and the steering is electrically assisted. Of course I appreciate honest historical technology, but modern developments also have their fascination.
I have always wanted to experience the latest innovations for myself. That was already the case with the first automated gearshifts (keyword Selespeed from Alfa Romeo), CVT gearboxes (keyword Multitronic from Audi) or the DSG (driven in a first-generation version in the Audi A3 at the time). Early versions of navigation systems and car phones were also installed in my everyday car and with the advent of modern assistance systems, I naturally wanted to find out more about how they performed in everyday traffic. I also got on the hybrid bandwagon early with a second-generation Prius and didn't even miss out on the minivan trend (with Touran and Zafira). I drove a Golf VR6 as well as an eight-cylinder five-cylinder BMW, comparatively compact cars with large engines. Whether turbo, four-valve or TDI engines, I used them all. And and and.
Many of these cars that I bought and drove back then as a trendsetter, new or young used, are now youngtimers or even classic cars. And I still like to get behind the wheel of innovative modern cars to experience how they feel. So I don't want to reject modern cars, but of course that doesn't stop me from appreciating classic vehicles all the more. Because they often manage to convey an exciting driving experience with comparatively little effort and technology. And of course I enjoy such an experience, no matter how old the car is.
