The heat death
07/04/2019
It's the same with cars as with people: not everyone copes equally well with the heat. Some vehicles are perfectly thermally balanced, while others struggle to keep up with the heat, especially when there is little wind and on strenuous climbs. This Ferrari 308 GTB had a hard time with itself and finally "puked" the entire, totally overheated cooling water out of its interior.
Various damage to the car can be caused by heat, not to mention the electronic problems of modern cars.
Extreme heat in combination with under-inflated tires is one of the most common and most underestimated causes of tire damage.
Damage to the cooling system often occurs because hose connections or a tank are leaking, but important fluid can also be lost through an ailing water pump.
It is also better not to fill the tank to the brim. The fuel expands in the heat and can leak out of the tank. At the current temperatures, 50 liters of cool fuel can quickly turn into 51 liters of warm fuel in a car parked in the sun.
Incidentally, a fully turned up interior heater draws heat from the engine compartment. If the engine's cooling system is at its limits, the heater conducts a lot of the warm air from the engine compartment into the passenger compartment and thus helps prevent the engine from collapsing, albeit to a lesser extent that of the driver. To prevent the engine from dying of heat, it is best to set the heater to its highest temperature when idling and turn it up fully.
Insects, tree resin or bird droppings often cause small cracks and swellings in combination with the sun's rays, which can damage not only the paintwork but also the sheet metal underneath. However, the sweaty and laborious work of car polishing should not be carried out in the blazing sun. Otherwise the polish dries out far too quickly and can also attack the paintwork, causing it to fade.
It is therefore not really fun for man and machine to be out and about in this heat. It's much better to enjoy all the wonderful balmy evening hours at the moment and enjoy riding into a fantastic twilight with the last rays of sunshine.
