The first practice session for the BMW M1 ProCar race at the Norisring will be the main attraction of this weekend's DTM race
When asked by a fan: "Mr. Stuck, how did you feel when you got back into the car today after 40 years?" Hans Joachim Stuck gave a very clear answer: "I can only think of one word: SAUGEIL! This car is and remains simply awesome."
"Can you even sit properly in the car with your size?" came the second question. "Yes, actually very well, I've driven other cars that were much worse. I'd like to sit a bit lower, but unfortunately that's not possible because we're almost sitting on the floor." Whereupon the much smaller Dutchman, Jan Lammes, interrupted Stuck and said: "And I always need the Maxi-Cosi."
Harald Grohs remembers how Niki Lauda, with Ron Dennis at his side, asked him before a start not to drive into his car and said: "We'll drive nicely behind each other."
The gigantic sound of the M1 pack immediately captivated the fans again and the three fastest of the old men were already setting Porsche Cup times in the first practice session in the 40-year-old cars.
