BMW M1-ProCar Series at the Norisring
07/05/2019
This weekend, the ProCar series will also return to the Norisring for a guest appearance on the occasion of the DTM race.
The BMW M1 ProCar was run with identical M1s as part of the European Formula 1 racing program in 1979 and 1980. The first race was held in Zolder on May 12, exactly 40 years ago. In addition to various sports cars and touring car drivers, the five fastest drivers of the respective Formula 1 race in practice always took part in the races. Only Ferrari and Renault refused to allow their drivers to start with the foreign brand.
Now BMW has drummed up an entire M1 racing field and is commemorating the ingenious and entertaining racing series of the time with a race, which in some cases thrilled the fans more than the later F1 race. This is guaranteed to be the case again this weekend at the Norisring. The DTM has to deliver two brilliant races to prevent the ProCar from stealing the show. The last time you could see and, above all, hear the great cars was in 2008 in Hockenheim before the German GP and in 2016 in Spielberg at the Austrian GP. The sound of one of these cars is already brilliant, but the sound of 15 such cars is breathtaking, even AC/DC would have a hard time with that.
We will keep you up to date and report as much as possible to all those who unfortunately cannot be there live.
