What about the youngtimers from Alfa Romeo?
07/13/2019
When the conversation turns to youngtimers, Alfa Romeo is hardly ever the first brand to be mentioned. This is certainly also due to the fact that the early nineties were not exactly the best time for the sporty brand from Milan.
Some of the models are barely remembered, even though only a good 20 years have passed since then. Who has ever seen an Alfa Romeo 145 or 146 at a classic car meeting? Whose "must have" list includes the Alfa Romeo 155? The somewhat more appealing successor, the 156, which only appeared on the scene as an attractive GTA in the new millennium.
After all, there was also the Alfa Romeo 164 and its successor, the 166, both of which were very appealing saloons with the famous V6 engine. But they too are rarely seen on the road.
The Zagato SZ and RZ models, on the other hand, were already rare back then and are even rarer today. And certainly not everyone's cup of tea.
But then there was also the 916 model, which replaced the long-lived 105/115 (including the Alfa Romeo Spider 2000) and 116 (including the GTV 6) as the GTV coupé (pictured above) and spider. Although they no longer had rear-wheel drive, their shape, which they had been given by Pininfarina, was certainly appealing. And the Coupé in particular has aged well visually and still looks fresh and attractive today, not least of course because of the elegant round front headlights that Pininfarina had already shown on the Audi Quartz in 1981. But it seems that even the Coupé and Spider of the Type 916 are still waiting to be discovered.
