Impractical racing cars? There's another way!
11/01/2018
Racing cars and rally cars from the Group B era are not exactly considered suitable for everyday use or practical. In most cases, you need the agility of a gymnast to even get behind the wheel because of the roll cage and racing seats. And getting out is often even more challenging than getting in. There is hardly any space in the narrow cockpits and trunk space is usually out of the question.
However, when we photographed an MG Metro 6R4( from 1986) yesterday for a planned report in the annual magazine, we noticed an extremely practical detail that is suitable for everyday use, namely the position of the water expansion tank.
In the vehicle pictured, this was mounted right next to the rear side window. It is therefore possible to see immediately from the outside whether there is still enough water in the system. And the driver can probably even see it in the rear-view mirror. In this case, there is no need to open the hood. However, this solution will certainly not set a precedent, especially not today, at a time when car manufacturers prefer to hide everything from car buyers under plastic covers ...
We published a report on the MG Metro 6R4( Clubman version) some time ago.
