Almost like a two-year-old used car

It is the dream of many classic car enthusiasts, the Jaguar E-Type. Most of them are now restored or in a sad state, as the oldest ones are 57 years old. And they were not built to last forever.
So the likelihood of coming across an unrestored car with low mileage that looks like it has been used for two years is actually zero.
But Bonhams can actually offer a 1962 Jaguar E-Type Coupé with 12,418 miles on the clock at the annual Quail Lodge auction in the vicinity of the Pebble Beach Concours, which is in excellent condition according to the photos.
Chassis 886489 (engine R6162-9) was completed on July 30, 1962 and delivered to the States as a left-hand drive car. It was probably no coincidence that the color choice corresponded exactly to the car that was presented on the Jaguar stand at the 1961 New York Auto Show.
With just three owners, who obviously took great care of the coupé, the history is clear for a car that is almost 60 years old. And with an estimated price of USD 150,000 to 200,000 (60 to 80 times the original price at the time), Bonhams is probably being rather cautious with the unrestored E-Type, as it could very well be that a collector would be prepared to pay significantly more for it. But it doesn't have to be, because the Jaguar is even offered without a reserve price. Which could make it a veritable bargain.
Whether you would then want to continue driving on the first tires that have been fitted since 1962, however, is another question ...
We have documented what else is for sale at Bonhams on August 24, 2018 in our announcement( with over 150 pictures).
