When people still fitted wing mirrors themselves
In the sixties, and even in the seventies, it was still quite common to use a drill to fit an exterior mirror. Although some car manufacturers equipped their cars with a left-hand exterior mirror early on, the right-hand mirror, although practical, was usually missing.
Car buyers who wanted more rear visibility and more sportiness were happy to buy the Talbot rear-view mirror, which was affordable despite its good quality (1961: DM 21.50) and - thanks to the mirror head that could be adjusted on all sides - was easy to adjust. It also looked good with its aerodynamic shape.
Today, original Talbot mirrors "made in Germany" (and with the correct emblems) are considered sought-after accessories, although replicas are probably also available.
