You can also be wrong, or would you have recognized him?

It was 24 years ago when the magazine "Auto Motor und Sport" speculated about what the fourth generation of the VW Golf would look like. In 1994, the VW Golf III (pictured below) was just three years old, and it would be another three years before the Golf IV actually appeared.
But in the AMS number 9/1994 , you could already read quite precisely what the future Golf would look like, correctly announced for 1997.
From a technical point of view, a powerful boost was expected. Up to five valves per cylinder were expected and five valves were also considered for the possible 2.1-liter five-cylinder engine, "25 V", that would have looked cool at the rear! For the VR6, a reduction from 2.8 to 2.4 liters was predicted, but thanks to the four-valve head, the output of 170 hp remained unchanged.
The design was an in-house creation, external studios were not commissioned, wrote Thomas Fischer for AMS. It is interesting that the published designs by AMS in-house designer Stehrenberger reminded us more of the Opel Astra (F, front, later) and Ford Fiesta ('89, rear lights, earlier) than of the Golf that was finally presented in 1997.
But perhaps we could have come to terms with a different design for the Golf IV back then. It would have made its way anyway.
