Station wagons no longer more in demand than saloons for classic cars
In the new car business, estate cars sell better than saloons for many brands and they also enjoy higher demand on the used car market. But what about when they reach classic car age?
Up to now, estate cars have hardly been able to set themselves apart from their saloon brethren in terms of value, and in some cases they are even valued lower.
This could change, however, if the generation that now prefers the estate car for everyday driving becomes classic car buyers, could it not? We wanted to know the opinion of Zwischengas readerson this topic. 419 took part in the small survey. Their preference was clear.
59% believe that practical use is secondary when buying a classic car, while design and driving pleasure criteria as well as rarity/special status are much more important. Accordingly, according to these people, a station wagon will not be worth more than a saloon.
However, 25% give the estate car a good chance of surpassing its saloon brothers in terms of value, because they are convinced that practical arguments also count for classic cars, especially among people who have already enjoyed the advantages of the estate car in their everyday car.
A very high proportion of 15% could not agree with either the first or the second answer.
Here is the graphical analysis of the survey:
