Classic car clubs are not dying out any time soon
04/11/2016
You hear it again and again. People who have only discovered classic cars in recent years do not join classic car clubs. The exchange of information is guaranteed and there are plenty of opportunities to meet up with other classic car drivers. The classic classic car club is threatened with extinction, the members are getting older and older and it is difficult to encourage newer members to join or even take on tasks in the club.
But is this really true, we asked our readers as part of the " question of the week" . And they have a much more differentiated and optimistic view of clubs.
85% believe that the clubs are still needed and that their existence makes sense. Not quite half (38% in absolute terms) are unreservedly convinced of this, while the majority (46% in absolute terms) believe that it depends on the brand and orientation of the club as to whether it is still necessary.
One of the supporters is Mr. Merz, who contacted us: "Real enthusiasts who buy vehicles for their own sake and not for a possible capital gain are in good hands in classic car and brand clubs, because only there can you get real insider information and restoration help. Find the right club and you'll get effective expertise and wonderful friendships."
Only just 15% on the other side believe that classic car clubs will die out with the coming generations. This group includes Mr. Rickli from Switzerland, who has just said goodbye to his club: "... because the club only has seniors and the youngsters are not really welcome. Paying dues yes, but no more services such as trips with similar vehicles or a visit to the workshop twice a year to inspect the vehicle on a lift if you don't have one yourself ..."
Here is the graphical analysis of the answers to the question of the week:
We have already asked the next question of the week, this time asking whether a manual gearbox makes the car valuable as a classic.
The results of the previous questions of the weekcan all be found in a dedicated topic channel.
