The great love for the first car (Question of the week evaluation)
As we all know, the first car in a car owner's life has a very special significance. However, the car purchased shortly after obtaining a driver's license is usually fraught with compromises and is rarely the best or most beautiful car that some 18-year-olds might dream of. Nevertheless, of course you gain a lot of experience, especially with your first car.
In a" question of the week" , we wanted to find out whether there is still a nostalgic connection to the first car decades later, whether the men and women who have now matured into classic car owners (or enthusiasts) could imagine buying their first car again as a classic or modern classic.
The answers were more than clear! 82%, i.e. more than four-fifths of the 448 participants, could definitely imagine buying their first car again as a classic/youngtimer. Of these 82%, however, and this is even more surprising, an absolute 64% (i.e. around two thirds of all respondents) say that they would really like to buy their first car again.
Only 12% would definitely not buy their first car again.
The number of respondents who did not find themselves in any of the given answers was relatively high, namely 8%. Some of the responses enlightened at least some of these eight percent. Some survey participants still own their first car today, i.e. have remained loyal to it over the years or bought it back later.
If around four fifths of all drivers can imagine buying their first car again and a large proportion of them would even consider it, shouldn't the prices of these mostly former bread and butter cars rise sustainably? With 4 to 8 million classic car/youngtimer enthusiasts in German-speaking countries, extrapolating our response statistics would create an enormous demand for the Beetle, Escort, Kadett, Fiat 500/850/127, Renault 4, Citroën 2 CV and the like. And perhaps this will happen, which would go some way to explaining the very high prices for an old VW Beetle or a beautiful Citroën 2 CV.
