Not everything that looks old is old ...
From a distance, but even when you get up close, this car looks like a Grand Prix car from the 1950s, a mixture of Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow and Maserati 250F, with a splash of Ferrari.
But this monoposto was built in 2017! Its builder is Ant Anstead and the team from Dowsetts Clasic Carsdesigned it according to their own ideas to be auctioned off by Silverstone Auctions for a good cause.
The result is impressive with its balanced proportions and authenticity.
Only when you lift off the hood do you find what is probably the most modern piece of technology, the engine of the Mazda MX-5, which has of course been completely overhauled.
If you imagine how much sweat and hours it must have taken to build this monoposto, then the result achieved at the auction is actually quite disappointing: £22,500 was the selling price including surcharge/commission.
I wonder if the local bidders were put off by the fact that it would be impossible to achieve road approval for this pretty racing car? We, for one, would go to any lengths to be able to take the attractive single-seater for a spin ...
