The car for the movie, the movie thanks to the car (Porsche 911 ST 2.5)
Over five years ago, we presented a breathtaking movie called "The Speed Merchants" on zwischengas, which is about the sports car championship of 1972. The gripping film takes you to the most important race tracks and even shows the action from the driver's perspective.
How did they do that back then, one or two viewers may have wondered?
Well, we now know, because a book has just been published that portrays the camera car in the film, a Porsche 911 ST 2.5, which we photographed at the Porsche stand at Techno Classica in 2016 (picture above).
There are even pictures in the book showing the car with the camera mounted at the Targa Florio, which of course makes it clear why these are very special racing sequences.
The fact that the Porsche not only drove along to shoot a few film scenes, but also achieved notable placings, such as a class victory at Le Mans, makes things even better and also explains why an entire book has been published about the car.
The nice thing about it is that the book also comes with the movie, as we were able to tell you in the book review .
A great story and an example of how seemingly disparate themes can come together in the end.
