Can you get more? Ford Escort RS 2000 for more than 100'000!
If any more proof was needed that many classic car buyers are after the car they admired or dreamed of in their youth, the recent Silverstone Auctions sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show could serve .
On offer was a Ford Escort RS 2000 Mk2from 1980, a type of car that is also popular in this country ( report on a similar vehicle) , but the white car was a special "custom" version with additional equipment details such as 6x13 x 6x4 wheels.
equipment details such as 6x13 aluminum wheels or Recaro seats with "fishnet" fabric upholstery. However, the right-hand drive car on offer was even more unique in that it only had 927 miles on the clock. The car was practically never used and was part of a collection.
No wonder the bids were high, but hardly anyone would have expected £ 97,857, the equivalent of EUR 109,277 or CHF 127,541.
The problem for the new owner - if he drives the car, it will probably quickly be worth less, because with 10,000 or 20,000 miles on the clock, it will probably not be valued so highly at the next sale. Nevertheless, almost 110,000 euros for an Escort is a proud price that is probably only possible in the UK. Or is it?
P.S. The RS 2000 was not the only expensive Escort at the auction, an Escort Lux from 1996 with just 837 miles on the clock sold for £ 91'125 (EUR 101'741, CHF 118'745).
P.S.2 Incidentally, the TVR Tina prototype that we reported on the other day was not sold; it would now be available again for just over £32,000. A restored one-off for less than a third of the price paid for the RS 2000, that actually sounds like a bargain ...
