Is the price boom now starting for the GTI?
04/18/2016
On April 9, a Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9 from 1991 (lot 233) was sold at the British auction house "Anglia Car Auctions" for £ 25,500. This is the equivalent of EUR 32,020 or CHF 34,952. A proud price for a normal 205 GTI.
Is it possible to deduce a price boom for the Peugeot from this transaction?
Well, you have to know that the British have always been enthusiastic about the so-called "hot hatches", i.e. the sporty hatchback compact cars. In addition, the red 205 GTI on offer was a fully restored example for around 25,000 euros or 27,500 Swiss francs, which presented itself largely as good as new and also came in at the top of the estimated price (£ 18,000 to 22,000). A high sale was therefore to be expected.
Incidentally, VW Golf GTIs from the first model series are also offered for such prices in this country, so such valuations are not completely out of thin air. But here too, condition and provenance are certainly decisive factors.
The early GTIs, whether from Volkswagen, Peugeot or even Fiat (125 TC Abarth), certainly deserve collectors' interest, because the number of still intact and original examples is manageable, but the driving pleasure is great. We will continue to monitor this ...
