Unexpected oncoming traffic
01/12/2016
A story on the sidelines of the Planai-Classic 2016 , which should make us think: As soon as the third run had started, a wrong-way driver came along, despite the road being closed off.
As there were only marshals at the start and finish, he was able to get onto the route despite having been informed in advance. He nervously explained that his father was in hospital because he had spilled hot fat on himself and he wanted to see him now.
I was able to wave him out, but he was determined to drive on. A Porsche 356 drove past and others followed, which made our ghost driver realize that he should wait for the end of the race. After all, he didn't want to share a room with his father in hospital and be responsible for a serious accident.
For moments like this, rally participants should always drive with a modicum of safety and perhaps not always drive through all blind, fast bends in good faith on the absolute ideal line. Because the case described here is not an isolated incident, incidents like this happen all the time.
We reported extensively on the Planai Classic 2016 .
