Classic cars at Auto Zürich 2014 - from Audi, Citroën and Fiat to Volkswagen
Of course, a trade fair like Auto Zürich is primarily for the sale of new cars. All the more reason for visitors with an affinity for classic cars to be pleased that a few classic vehicles also found their way into the exhibition.
Most impressive in this context was certainly the presentation of three Citroën milestones to mark the 90th anniversary of Citroën Switzerland.
At the front was a Citroën 2 CV 6 Spécial from 1964, behind it a rare Citroën DS 23 Break from 1973 and at the very back the Citroën Traction Avant from 1955.
Visitors showed great interest, and many a grandfather was likely to tell his grandson about past driving experiences in view of the three classic cars.
The VW Bus was also honored on two stands, both times as a T1 ...
... and both times in memorable colors.
And then there was the short Audi Sport Quattro...
... and the red Fiat 8V (Otto Vu) from 1953 with Rapi factory bodywork.
While we're on the subject of Fiat, there was also a tuned Fiat Uno.
And even among the new cars, some inexperienced observers might have guessed that some of the vehicles were classic cars. The new basic version of the Caterham Seven, for example, looks very similar to its predecessors and, as always, the Morgan three- and four-wheelers also evoke very nostalgic feelings.
However, the queues were longest for the modern electric cars and hybrid vehicles, but it's not every day that you get the chance to sit behind the wheel of a BMW i8 or Tesla Model S. And of course you weren't allowed to sit behind the wheel of the classic cars ....
