The sports car for life for three (plus dog)
01/08/2013
The advantages of a saloon and a sports car combined in one vehicle - this is how the marketing people at BMC positioned the MG B GT in the 1960s. And they illustrated this impressively in the brochure for Switzerland with a child in the back and a dog in the trunk.
The text also highlighted the ideal combination of saloon comfort, sportiness and practicality:
" If you want a sports car but can't do without space and comfort, you have to buy a sports car and a saloon. Or the MGB GT.
Because the racy MGB GT has the powerful engine, safe chassis and effective braking system of a 100% sports car, plus an overdrive and particularly comprehensive instrumentation.
But despite this sporty concept, the MGB GT drives as comfortably as a saloon. There is even room for any family offspring. And if you open the rear hatch, you can easily stow everything a small family needs for a big vacation trip.
What could be smarter than a sports car that always leaves a back door open for you?"
The entire four-page brochure is of course available in the Zwischengas archiveand if you would like to know more about the MG B, please refer to the extensive vehicle reportwith further brochures and over 120 photos.
By the way, whether the magnificent dog would really have enjoyed the ride in the trunk of the sports suit is another story ...
