Summary
The Jensen Interceptor is neither a classic sports car nor a pure luxury glider. It is also not purely British, but combines Italian, American and British aspects of car construction. The recipe was well received, and over 6000 of these 300 hp coupés with a large glass tailgate were produced, a number of units that Aston Martin, for example, could only dream of. This driving report looks back and shows the Jensen Interceptor in current and historical images and sales material.

Preview (beginning of the article)
Henry Cooper was a successful British heavyweight boxer who did not win all his fights, but at least fought his way to the European title several times. He also fought Cassius Clay / Muhammed Ali twice in 1963 and 1966, even knocking him out in the first fight, but still lost both fights. He was not short of fame and probably also income, so that he was able to buy the best sports cars of the time. When he was faced with the decision of buying either an Aston Martin DB6 or a Jensen Interceptor, he asked John Surtees, a motorcycle and F1 world champion, for advice. Surtees recommended the Jensen, which had the more reliable engine. Cooper followed the advice and later said that it had been a good choice and that his wife had also been delighted with the car. Despite significantly higher production numbers compared to the Aston DB4-6 models, which were around the same price at the time, the Jensen Interceptor is less well known today, although there was no shortage of famous people who gave the Jensen the nod.
