Alain Prost drives his 1983 Renault Turbo RE40 again
Last weekend, Alain Prost got back behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car for the first time since 1993.
In Le Castellet, he drove his Renault Turbo RE40, in which he was runner-up in the 1983 World Championship. He protected his head with the original helmet from back then and was astonished when he realized after the race that his white fireproof "head saver" was completely blackened. The helmet had been mouldering away in a display case for the past 28 years.
So as not to make a fool of himself in front of the fans present, he was able to put in a secret test day in Dijon before his deployment.
