Simca and the women
09/26/2011
Women played an important role at Simca during the period in which Henri Pigozzi headed the company. Not only was the phrase "I sell my cars to the most beautiful women in Paris" coined by Henri Pigozzi, but the product strategy with its beautiful shapes and uncomplicated, steadfast technology was also aimed at appealing to women in particular. The sales brochures focused more on women than other brands.
And in the promotional photos, women sat behind the wheel more often than not and didn't just play the passenger.
Or they posed in ways that were reserved for men elsewhere.
The Simca marketing people also attached great importance to a design that was particularly appealing to women.
We have just published a detailed and widely illustrated report on the Simca Aronde Plein Ciel, built from 1956 to 1962. The report is not only interesting for Simca fans, but also provides an insight into the late fifties with photos and sales brochures.
