Will the Mini Marcos return to its former glory?
Recently, a colleague showed me his newly purchased Mini Marcos. It was still standing in front of us without an interior and not really in presentable condition. But, said the proud owner, the car should soon be back to its former glory and look something like this:
The Mini Marcos was launched in 1965. The design came from Malcom Newall. The polyester body was sold as a kit and could be fitted over Mini elements and components. The car was not a great commercial success, but it was certainly competitive in GT racing. In 1966, the Mini Marcos was the only British car to finish the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Production at Marcos was stopped in 1975 and the model was licensed to Harold Dermot, who presented it as the Midas Kit Car at the 1978 Performance Car Show in London.
We are now eager to see how the restoration project for this Mini Marcos from the early 1970s develops.
