Wieder ein Ferrari! Nachdem bereits im Vorjahr ein Rennwagen aus Maranello den Titel "Best of Show Concorus de Sport" tragen durfte, ging der Preis für den schönsten Rennwagen auch beim diesjährigen The Amelia (29. Februar bis 3. März 2024) an einen Ferrari der Sechzigerjahre. Genauer: an den 1962er 250 GTO, der 1964 die Tour de France Automobile gewonnen hat. Das sieht man ihm aber nicht mehr auf den ersten Blick an, denn seit einer jüngst vollendeten Restaurierung trägt der silberne Schönling wieder die Dekoration der 24 Stunden von Le Mans 1963, bei denen er vierter insgesamt und zweiter in seiner Klasse geworden ist.
Gänzlich unverwechselbar dürfte hingegen der Sieger des "Best of Show Concours d'Elegance" sein. Der bronzefarbene Delahaye 135 MS "Cabriolet Narval" mit einer Karosserie von Figoni & Falaschi erhielt seinen Namen wegen des charakteristischen Buckels über dem Kühlergrill, der an den Schädel eines Narwals erinnert. Insgesamt sechs dieser automobilen Charakterköpfe entstanden, wobei das auf Amelia Island ausgezeichnete Exemplar einst dem französischen Sänger Charles Trenet gehört hat. Nach Meinung der gut 27'000 Besucher war ein 1933er MG J2 das schönste Auto der Veranstaltung und bekam den Publikumspreis verliehen.
Abseits der zwei Gesamtsieger wurden beim Concours d'Elegance am Sonntag noch 32 weitere der insgesamt 285 Autos, die sich auf dem Golfplatz des Ritz-Carlton in Amelia eingefunden haben, als Klassensieger prämiert. Ebenso gab es in jeder Kategorie noch zwei "rühmliche Erwähnung". Wer sein edles Blech immer noch nicht prämiert sah, konnte schliesslich noch auf einen von 32 Sonderpreisen hoffen (siehe dazu auch die Tabelle am Ende dieses Artikels). Zum wettbewerbsfreien "Cars and community" am Samstag versammelten sich gar 375 Automobilklassiker auf dem Grün.
Eine Sonderschau bildete dieses Jahr der "The racers' concours" mit Renn- und Sportwagen, die ihre nachfolgenden Generationen nachhaltig geprägt haben. Anlässlich des 40-jährigen Bestehens des Nascar-Rennstalls Hendrick Motorsports waren zudem die Rennfahrer Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. sowie Teamchef Rick Hendrick persönlich geladen. Die Jubiläumsausgabe des Amelia-Concours (30. Austragung) wird von 6. bis 9. März 2025 stattfinden. Ob Ferrari den Hattrick schafft?
