Another Ferrari! After a racing car from Maranello was awarded the title of "Best of Show Concorus de Sport" last year , the prize for the most beautiful racing car at this year's The Amelia (February 29 to March 3, 2024) also went to a Ferrari from the sixties. More precisely: the 1962 250 GTO, which won the Tour de France Automobile in 1964. However, you can no longer see this at first glance, because since a recent restoration, the silver beauty once again bears the livery of the 1963 24 Hours of Le Mans, in which it finished fourth overall and second in its class.
The winner of the "Best of Show Concours d'Elegance", on the other hand, is likely to be completely unmistakable. The bronze-colored Delahaye 135 MS "Cabriolet Narval" with bodywork by Figoni & Falaschi got its name from the characteristic hump above the radiator grille, which is reminiscent of the skull of a narwhal. A total of six of these automotive character heads were created, with the one on Amelia Island once belonging to the French singer Charles Trenet. In the opinion of the 27,000 or so visitors, a 1933 MG J2 was the most beautiful car at the event and was awarded the audience prize.
In addition to the two overall winners, 32 more of the 285 cars that gathered on the golf course of the Ritz-Carlton in Amelia were honored as class winners at the Concours d'Elegance on Sunday. There were also two "honorable mentions" in each category. Finally, those who still didn't see their precious metal awarded could still hope to win one of 32 special prizes (see also the table at the end of this article). As many as 375 classic cars gathered on the green for the non-competitive "Cars and community" on Saturday.
A special show this year was "The racers' concours" with racing and sports cars that have left a lasting impression on subsequent generations. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Nascar racing team Hendrick Motorsports, racing drivers Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and team boss Rick Hendrick were also personally invited. The anniversary edition of the Amelia Concours (30th edition) will take place from March 6 to 9, 2025. Will Ferrari manage the hat-trick?
