Classic and modern classic car drivers are driving (slightly) less these days (Question of the Month)
Temperatures are rising, traffic is getting heavier, and traffic jams are becoming more frequent. It’s no longer as easy to drive and travel in a classic car. That’s why some classic car owners prefer to leave their old car in the garage for certain trips and take their everyday vehicle out instead. The result: Fewer kilometers are being driven in classic and modern classic cars than in the past. But is that really true? We wanted to find out from Zwischengas readers and posed the “Question of the Month”: Do you drive your classic car less than you used to?
In fact, 37.8% of the more than 300 respondents stated that they drive neither more nor less than they used to. And 16.3% even said that they now cover more kilometers in their classic or modern classic cars than they used to.
However, 44.6% of readers also said that they drive less than they used to. 27.9% (in absolute terms) said they drive “a little less,” while 16.7% indicated that they drive their classic cars significantly less than they used to.
For the sake of completeness, it should be noted that 1.3% did not identify with any of the answers.
The overall decline in mileage among all classic and modern classic car drivers is likely not very significant, since more than half reported driving the same amount or more. However, the number of drivers who are covering fewer kilometers in their classic cars is, on the whole, greater than the number of those who are driving more. The original hypothesis was thus confirmed.
