When the classic car becomes a stress factor
10/04/2024
For many people, an old car is their hobby, an oasis of relaxation. You sit in the old car and end up in another time, forgetting everyday worries and collecting beautiful memories.
But that's not always the case. Time and again, we talk to classic car owners who complain that their old cars (usually several of them) can also cause stress. Collectors are familiar with this issue. The fact is that classic cars work better when they are driven regularly. If you leave the classic car for a few months, it may well not run as well as before, show new quirks or even need repairs (keyword: breakdown). Then, if you can't fix it yourself, the car has to go back to a specialist, which leads to bills and logistical expenses (delivery, collection).
The more cars you have, the greater the challenge of regularly doing justice to all of them.
The situation is not made any easier by the fact that it is no longer as easy as it used to be to fit the old car into normal everyday life. Of course, there is a solution for everything, but it is often easier and more comfortable to reach for an air-conditioned everyday car equipped with a navigation system instead of getting a classic car out of the garage, which should be given a minimum of maintenance/checks before setting off and for which more care and advance planning is advisable.
Not all classic car enthusiasts can probably understand the problems described, but there are good reasons why more and more classic car collections seem to be coming onto the market ...
