Three missed opportunities at once

Among Lancia enthusiasts, the Pininfarina coupé is considered the much more successful of the two Gamma variants. Although it came from the same renowned company, the design language of the hatchback was never really convincing. As if realizing its mistake, the Turin design studio therefore launched new variants every two years, all of which followed the coupé line.
The familiar two-door model with a closed body was initially followed in 1978 by a model called the "Spider" with two removable roof segments and a T-bar. Two years later, the four-door "Scala" appeared, the car that the Gamma Berlina should have been from the outset. Another two years later , the two-door "Olgiata" estate completed the hypothetical model range.
None of the elegant Gamma offshoots subsequently went into series production. The fact that the range of one-offs was nevertheless presented in its entirety at the 1982 Paris Motor Show showed one thing above all: it could have been so beautiful. But by then, the fate of the series had long been sealed.
