Raise the chassis to the highest position, lower the jack, lower the chassis - done. Citroën proudly advertised the DS (and many other models with hydropneumatic suspension) with the fact that you no longer had to crank yourself into a wolf with an undersized scissor jack when you needed to change a wheel at the side of the road. Theoretically, the principle can be applied to any car with a height-adjustable body, including purely air suspension systems.
At this year's Techno Classica, for example, a Mercedes-Benz 600 was held in the air by a metal rod inserted into the jack mount and a block of wood. Daimler-Benz nevertheless included a classic jack with a crank handle with the on-board tools for the representative limousine. The owners would hardly have minded. After all, in the event of a flat tire, it was not the driver's own muscle power that was required, but only that of the chauffeur.
