75 years of Abarth (car connoisseur quiz)
04/12/2024
At the beginning of April 1949, Carlo Abarth took over the remains of Cisitalia's racing department and founded his own design office. Initially focusing on custom-bodied one-offs, he soon made a name for himself with the customization of Fiat vehicles and built his own sports cars in series before the large corporation took over in 1971.
The photo above from the 1956 Geneva Motor Show shows the transitional phase in which Fiat technology was already predominantly used, but the bodies were still produced by independent sheet metal cutters. The models on display all used the four-cylinder engine of the Fiat 600, which had been enlarged to around 750 cc, but wore coupé bodywork by Zagato (rear), Bertone (front) and Viotti (2nd from front). Only the Abarth 750 Berlina (2nd from the rear) presented itself in the sheet metal of the original model, albeit with an elegant two-tone paint finish.
Although the Abarth logo was found on significantly more cars after the Fiat takeover, it did not harm the name's nimbus. Even today, sporty Fiat cars still bear the scorpion symbol. We are celebrating the 75th anniversary of Abarth with this quiz. Would you like to try?
