The risks in the choice of image
11/08/2023
We are currently finalizing our eagerly awaited Zwischengas annual magazine 2024 , and everything has to be at the printers in just under three weeks.
We had to decide on the cover photo months ago. And that's never easy. Different interests and objectives have to be reconciled, especially as we sell a significant proportion of our circulation at newsstands.
In the end, we decided on a masterful "shot" by Daniel Reinhard, which captures the "joy of shifting gears" - our cover theme - in a particularly beautiful way. The gearbox of a Bugatti Type 35 in particular represents this theme like no other. Moreover, there are not so many cars in which the gearshift is operated from the outside of the vehicle, so to speak.
Of course, there would have been alternatives, such as the gearshift in the modern Spyker C8 with its exposed gearshift linkage mechanism. But we all liked this somewhat comic-like image with the Bugatti, even though there is a certain risk involved in putting a pre-war car on the cover.
We'll see who's right in the end, the statisticians and sales strategists or the enthusiasts and those with a chip on their shoulder.
By the way, the 2024 annual magazine will be sent out to pre-order subscribers around mid-December 2023, and it will be available to buy from newsagents a little later. It's definitely going to be good!
