Do you know this one? Ford Mustang from Zagato
11/02/2023
Zagato is known for streamlined and lightweight cars such as the Alfa Romeo Giulia Tubolare Zagato. However, the coachbuilders at Zagato were also willing to make simpler and smaller things, such as optical modifications to the 1960s Ford Mustang.
One example was shown at the 48th Turin Motor Show in November 1966. The Zagato Mustang did not generate too much of a response, with the Automobil Revuedevoting just one sentence to it: "A Ford Mustang with a few detail changes remains to be mentioned as a small novelty."
Apparently, however, the response was great enough to attract interested parties for the conversion. In any case, a '67 Mustang that had left the factory in New Jersey on February 21, 1967, was modified by Zagato in the spring of 1967. These were limited to the installation of rectangular Carello headlights, an additional air scoop on the hood, the repainting from white to green and the upholstering of the interior with partially white artificial leather.
The car (chassis 7T02A201813) has survived, has been restored and is now to be auctioned online by Italian auction house Finartein November 2023. The estimated value has been set at EUR 190,000 to 260,000, the starting bid is expected to be EUR 180,000.
