The GT3 establishes itself
09/16/2022
The Porsche 996 already had a GT3, but the model variant only really became "popular" with the 997. The Porsche 997 GT3 was presented in March 2006 ( AR ) . 415 hp from a displacement of 3.6 liters was quite an announcement 16 years ago. As was the price of CHF 159,000 (in Switzerland). The gearbox wanted to be shifted by hand, but there were electrically adjustable seats if you didn't opt for lightweight bucket seats (plus CHF 7440).
A few months later, there was even more money to spend: for CHF 194,700, the 911 GT3 RS reduced the sprint time from 0 to 100 km/h by a further tenth of a second.
However, 2006 also had other surprises in store, and anyone leafing through the freshly digitized 2006 issue of Automobil Revue will find , for example, a review of 100 years of the automobile (AR was first printed in 1906). You will also discover that convertibles were still quite popular 16 years ago and that the Chinese were perceived as serious car manufacturers for the first time. Hybrid technology was also discussed at the time. Under the title "What can the hybrid do", AR compared the Lexus GS450h with its competitors, the BMW 535d and Mercedes-Benz E500.
The article about a completely new BMW 2002 (built from old parts) was certainly suitable for classic car enthusiasts at the time .
It's worth taking a look at the 2006 issue of AR ...
