Who can identify this dashboard?
The Bakelitmuseum.ch collects , exhibits and preserves objects from the industrial past from 1906 onwards. The collection also includes many parts from means of transportation. The main reason for the use of Bakelite in automobiles is the insulating character of the heat-pressed parts, the high heat resistance in the engine compartment, the warmth of the steering wheel and the relief knobs, gearshift, instrument panel, car radio, ignition coils, candle plugs, window cranks and flower vases.
The plastic objects, most of which have been given a pleasing shape by designers, motivate the founder of the Bakelite Museum, Jörg Josef Zimmermann, together with his wife Manon, to search for and collect such objects at flea markets around the world and on the Internet. A year ago, they found the dashboard of a 1955 Simca (still with a Fiat engine) and a few days ago a courier brought the instrument panel shown above from England. It was said to be from a Ford.
And indeed, a look at zwischengas.com and the 1950 Ford Prefect shows a dashboard that is at least very similar. But perhaps one of the Zwischengas readers knows even better?
