People understand less and less about their cars

Fifty years ago, a learner driver had to be able to explain the technology under the hood if he wanted to take home the coveted driver's license. Times have since changed dramatically, it seems.
A recent survey conducted by money.co.uk in the UK revealed that 59 percent of all respondents were unable to identify any of the components under the hood. Of the remainder who seemed to have at least some idea, many respondents were unable to locate the battery or oil dipstick. Many respondents also had to pass on the brake fluid and coolant reservoirs.
It would hardly look any different for us, so it is all the more important that we teach the next generation at least basic knowledge, even if there are more and more modern cars where you can't even see the engine ...
