Usually hidden but (formerly) important - the spare wheel
The spare wheel is probably neither the designer's nor the constructor's favorite child. But until a few years ago, it was an essential part of the basic vehicle equipment and somewhere you had to find space for the somewhat bulky spare wheel, which also had to be as easily accessible as possible.
Over the decades, a wide variety of solutions were developed, not all of which were successful in the long term.
In the early days, for example, the spare wheels were mounted on the outside of the car, later in the boot or engine compartment. But there were also a few other solutions that had something to offer.
