Summary
In 1964, the Rover 2000 (P6) was voted the first "Car of the Year", deservedly so. Four years later, the four-cylinder version was supplemented by an eight-cylinder version called the 3500 V8. More power and more comfort were the aim, and the price of the new Rover was hardly more expensive than the four and six-cylinder saloons of the competition. The Rover was built in two series until 1977, the end was not necessarily glorious due to the Leyland problems. The fact that the Rover excelled back then in terms of comfort and style is still well understood today. This driving report shows a Rover 3500 V8 from 1970 and explains the development history of this important model, supplemented by the sales brochure and rare historical pictures.

This was a considerable risk for Rover, which was not that big at the time but was still an independent car company. 10.5 million pounds (CHF 130 million at the time) were invested, a huge chunk!
