Genuine enthusiasm at Goodwood
04/07/2019
A good racing driver is always fast, no matter what car he is in. David Coulthard, Tom Blomqvist and Neel Jani proved this once again yesterday at the 77th Members Meeting in Goodwood.
Tom Blomquist, the former BMW DTM driver, drove a brilliant race in the "Mini Cup" and later also in the Ford Escort RS 2000 in the Gerry Marshall Trophy, where he came up against Le Mans winner Neel Jani in the Rover 3500.
He finished a sensational third in the Mini and unfortunately had to retire with the Escort in a promising position due to a technical defect.
The Rover of Jani/Wood finished second behind the Ford Mustang of Davies/Newall. Scotsman David Coulthard put the 300SL on the front row of today's Tony Gaze Trophy.
The enthusiasm of the numerous spectators at the side of the track showed how attractive motorsport can still be. You give the guys a sensible car without all the bells and whistles like telemetry or aerodynamic aids and they provide the kind of exciting racing you want. Add to that the enthusiasm of the drivers and everyone immediately realizes that the package is right.
