100 years of Bentley - how times (and shapes) change
Bentley is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Two pictures, both taken at the 77th Goodwood Members Meeting, clearly show that times have changed a lot. Bentley achieved its first overall victory with the 3 Liter Sport as early as 1924, in the second Le Mans race ever. Further victories followed in 1927 with the 3 Liter Super Sport, in 1928 with the 4 1/2 Liter and in 1929 and 1930 with the Speed Six.
Then there was a longer break of 73 years in total.
The picture shows the Bentley 4 1/2 Liter Blower from 1929 with Martin Overington at the wheel.
The visual contrast to this is the Bentley Speed 8, in which Tom Kristensen, Rinaldo Capello and Guy Smith were victorious at Le Mans in 2003.
The Dane Tom Kristensen, who was also personally in the car at Goodwood, celebrated his fourth of a total of nine Le Mans victories.
