Home Run - Hanomag commissary bread exceeds expectations in Paris
02/08/2019
Even the Bonhams specialists had probably not expected this. They had estimated the Hanomag 2/10 PS from 1928, also known as the "Kommissbrot" because of its shape, at EUR 15,000 to 20,000.
And so the first bids for lot 220 were just under four figures. But then things went up quickly. Soon EUR 30,000 was reached. The auctioneer commented that guests from Germany obviously wanted to secure a future for the early "Volkswagen" in the country of manufacture.
It was only at EUR 51,000 that the highest bidder finally secured the small car and the hammer fell. He thus paid EUR 58,650 including surcharge/commission for the pre-war classic car, which had a top speed of almost 60 km/h.
The Hanomag thus realized more than three times its estimated value. However, it has to be said that these cars in running condition are probably much rarer today than early Beetles, and these are ultimately also traded at high prices.
In any case, we are happy for the little one and can only say, Hopp Hanomag!
We will publish the results of the Bonhams auction soon.
