Looking for the hood of a rare Volkswagen - who can help? (Update: has been found in the meantime!)
In 1956, an interesting Volkswagen with a special body made an appearance at a beauty contest in Tession. The flat sports car even made it into the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, where the following was written in issue 24 of 1956 :
"This VW roadster comes from the Verga brothers' coachwork factory in Villa Coldrerio (Chiasso, Switzerland) and is particularly remarkable because of its panoramic windshield. This is by no means just a normal attribute to embellish the car, but also forms a unit with the side doors. So if you want to get in or out of the car, you raise the windshield at the same time as the doors. Why the designer came up with this somewhat violent solution is beyond our knowledge. We merely record it as a curiosity."
The vehicle was confiscated by the French government in 1959 as part of a smuggling operation and was only recently released.
Now the car has been driven to Switzerland to be restored to its former glory. But unfortunately, somewhere between Geneva and Lucerne (via Bern), the hood was lost! Now, of course, the owner is looking for this hood and is grateful for any useful information.
Readers of various online portals were asked to keep an eye out for the hood ...
NOTE: The hood has now been found again at Nyon. The owner is overjoyed!
