"If you look ahead, you shift gears faster" - economical or sporty driving?
An awareness campaign is currently running in Switzerland to motivate drivers to drive economically. Some of the posters are also currently on display in Lenzerheide, where the Lenzerheide Motor Classicstook place yesterday, Saturday and today.
This is a historic racing event on a circuit with a new start for each run.
The motto shown on one of the ecodrive posters makes perfect sense for the participants in their old but still nimble racing and sports cars: "If you look ahead, you shift faster". After all, shifting gears quickly is much more important in motorsport than in road traffic, which the poster makers somehow didn't get right. What they wanted to propagate was "shifting gears early". However, the racing drivers in Lenzerheide certainly heeded the advice, perhaps even too much in some cases.
There was also another recommendation on the back of the poster: "Relax your distance". Of course, as is usual in racing, the fast cars did not adhere to this at all. But after all, they didn't have to reckon with oncoming traffic and unexpected obstacles on the track.
A visit to Lenzerheide is definitely worthwhile for fans of old racing cars, not least because of the specially set up vehicle field with cars from the autobau museum, most of which Fredy Lienhard once drove himself.
