The procurement of spare parts for old cars has changed dramatically over the last two decades. While classic car markets, clubs and personal contacts used to be the first port of call when it came to sourcing parts, this has changed dramatically in recent years. But is the Internet, and in particular eBay and the like, really the first port of call for people looking for parts, we wanted to know from Zwischengas readers in a " Question of the Week" .
eBay and the like have really become indispensable in the classic car parts environment. 44% of the 248 readers who responded named online marketplaces and portals as their first port of call when it comes to sourcing spare parts for their classic or vintage car.
36% usually turn to specialists when it comes to spare parts supply.
Only 8% still see the many organized and popular classic/young car parts markets as an alternative for finding the right spare part
And for 7%, it is the club that they turn to for spare parts, while hardly anyone still uses a magazine as the most important source of information for finding parts. 3% apparently use other spare parts addresses and could not say "yes" to any of the suggested answers.
All in all, the evaluation therefore surprises with a clear result and the dominance of the Internet marketplaces over hardly any less important spare parts specialists.
