Back from the future - movie car from Total Recall
05/02/2017
Do you remember the movie "Total Recall" with Arnold Schwarzenegger? It's set in the future and is about a construction worker who buys himself a vacation that only takes place in his head, so to speak. Unfortunately, a few things go wrong, but that's less important here than the fact that the movie also features cars, which are supposed to show our means of transportation in the future.
And one of these cars has now landed on eBay (US) and is being auctioned off. It is a descendant of the 3-wheel tricycle developed by Robert Riley around 1980, which could be powered by a gas or electric motor and used primarily for urban transportation. As a kit, the tricycle was inexpensive and there was a real boom for it.
Mike Fennel bought one of these cars and converted it into a four-wheeler. This is exactly how it was used in the movie (on the far right of the picture).
Fennel, who also built other cars for the film, kept the car until his death, when it was sold and rescued by the Forgotten Fiberglass team.
Now the unrestored and undriveable "car from the future" is being offered to the public again and would certainly make an attractive exhibit for many a museum. The highest bid is currently USD 2900.
