Against all prejudices - humanity in vehicle testing
Many classic and vintage car owners drive to the road traffic office or MOT with a somewhat uneasy feeling, especially if the car has already clocked up many kilometers and years and is perhaps not exactly in better-than-new-restored condition 1.
Our Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9 is now 26 years old and of course the years and over 100,000 kilometers have not left it unscathed. But the request for a periodic vehicle inspection could not be postponed (in Switzerland it is due every two to three years and takes about half an hour).
To be on the safe side, the car was checked in the garage and a few small things could still be corrected. For example, the Peugeot was fitted with a new steering column lever on the left and the plunger of the rear windshield shower was also replaced. Thus prepared and of course with a cleaned engine, the Peugeot arrived at the road traffic office in beautiful weather.
The vehicle expert showed his understanding side. In conversation, he revealed that he had driven similar cars in the past and had the right nerve for a youngtimer 205 GTI. He found both the horn and the switch between dipped and main beam without any instructions. He also knew the critical points of this type of vehicle and passed on some valuable tips.
The verdict at the end: the test was passed, but some things needed to be corrected in the short or medium term. And for the vehicle owner? A good feeling and the realization that our road traffic authorities are also staffed by enthusiastic car enthusiasts who don't want to bully you, but are there to help. So it's a good thing all round.
