The Opel Ascona B, built from 1975 to 1981, was a very successful car, its shape and its face have become engraved in our minds like few others, and not only because of the hot versions with a "400" in the name.
Over 1.2 million vehicles were built, not only as the Opel Ascona but also as the Vauxhall Cavalier Mk 1.
The Ascona was to be re-bodied for the British market, but in the end only the nose was changed and here, too, there was no need to look far: the Opel Manta B was used .
And is the result (picture above) convincing? You decide for yourself! In any case, the transplant, including a few touch-ups (air intakes), seems to have been a success, even if the Cavalier's sales figures are rather modest compared to the Ascona variant. But there were other reasons for this ...
